Artist’s Statement

My paintings and studio practice explore and present an evolving conundrum of problems and solutions. They are of a moment, time and place and the intent is constantly changing. New directions can occur in leaps and bounds or small carefully calculated steps. I am always attempting to keep my options open where possible. The aim is to orchestrate and amplify an enigmatic expanse of shape shifting colour into some form of sense or nonsense, a metaphysical abstraction. This is fed by a constant curiosity and need to activate and transform everyday visual phenomena.

The result is an off-kilter, wacky and skewed kind of formalism, weaving and shifting compositions of colour and shape into fields and flows of primal energy. Manipulating space and perspective, my paintings possess and draw upon an inner pulse that both confronts and connects with the viewer, inviting contemplation. The act of painting and its purpose within my practice is to captivate the imagination, mesmerise and create an intangible conduit of distorted colour, space and energy. The rest is left for the viewer to discover and explore themselves within their own moment and place.
